Arizona Activists Celebrate Get-Out-The-Vote Effort In 2020 Election

A group of community organizers gathered Wednesday to celebrate 2020 election wins after a successful get-out-the-vote campaign.

The coalition traces its roots back to the fight over SB 1070, an immigration crackdown that passed a decade ago and galvanized the Latino community.

Activists sent postcards, letters and texts to mobilize young people and people of color for the election.

“They showed up every single day. No matter what. No matter what they were going through, no matter what was happening at home," said Randy Perez, of the grassroots organization LUCHA. No matter whether or not they had COVID, they were working. We had folks working from the hospital this year.”

The groups say they made millions of voter contacts during the 2020 campaign.
