Planned Parenthood of Arizona has quietly dropped its lawsuit challenging several Arizona abortion restrictions, without explanation.
In 2019, Planned Parenthood filed a lawsuit challenging three restrictions, the first a “physicians only” rule, which would exclude nurse practitioners. Another restriction banned prescribing abortion pills via telemedicine, and the third required a woman to make multiple clinic visits.
Individually, some of these laws and issues have been unsuccessfully challenged in the past.
An attorney for Planned Parenthood says she hoped the judge would have looked at the overall effect of these laws. But the case was dropped.
Proponents of the restrictions believe the organization dropped it because of the changing legal climate, citing the recent U.S. Supreme Court appointment. But no explanation was officially given by Planned Parenthood.
