How would you describe “Arizona’s sound?” Old cowboy music? Maybe rockabilly? Or do you think of the “Tempe sound” from back in the 1990s?
According to the Arizona Republic's music critic, Ed Masley, you'd be right about all of them.
When Masley set out to define “Arizona’s sound," he found he couldn’t — there were too many sounds to choose from.
So he set out to make a list of Arizona’s 100 essential records. It goes all the way back to the 1920s and up to today.
The Show spoke with him, and he said the idea was to have it give you a sense of the history of this state’s music, and just how diverse it has always been.
