Arizona Superintendent of Public Instruction Kathy Hoffman is feeling hopeful for the future of schools after the passage of Proposition 208 and the results of the presidential election.
Hoffman is looking forward to working with President-elect Joe Biden to add additional resources and support to schools, she said.
“I know he’s very supportive of teachers, and also with his wife, Dr. Biden, being an educator, I have a lot of optimism for what’s to come under his administration.”
Hoffman would like the Biden administration to address the digital divide between students who have access to the Internet and computers, and those who don’t, she said. This is an issue that’s been exacerbated throughout the coronavirus pandemic as students have needed both resources to learn from home.
In Arizona, Hoffman said Proposition 208 will provide schools with critically-needed funding to address the state’s teacher shortage.
