MEXICO CITY — Many world leaders have cheered the victory of presidential candidate Joe Biden over Donald Trump after this weekend’s vote count. But Mexican president Andrés Manuel López Obrador says he’ll wait for the results, accusing U.S. media of censoring Trump.
President López Obrador says he’ll be courteous and will wait until a winner is officially declared.
He claims to hold a good relationship with Biden and Trump, whom he considers to be very respectful with Mexico.
In the 2006 Mexican presidential elections, then-candidate López Obrador argued a fraud against him that has never been proven. He says he won’t make the same mistakes of world leaders that congratulated his rival, president Felipe Calderón.
López Obrador criticized media outlets that interrupted Trump’s speech last week. He says he’s used to media censorship in Mexico but not in the U.S.
