After a weekend of cooler temperatures and rain, Tonto National Forest will lift its fire ban, but the Forest Service is still asking visitors to be careful with their fires.
The forest has been under some level of fire restriction since late April.
In spite of that, more than 300,000 acres in the forest burned during the summer.
The Forest Service reminds campers to remain careful with campfires and to extinguish them before leaving camp.
"With the decreased activity, the rain we just had, the cooler temperatures, this is the time that we need to lift those restrictions," said Susan Blake, a spokeswoman with the Forest Service. "But there’s still the possibility of wildfire, because even though we had rain, it was not a lot of rain. So we ask the public to be very careful when they’re out there."
The agency reminds visitors that dragging chains and blown tires can also cause wildfires.
