The job of Homeland Security secretary has been a revolving door during the Trump administration.

The Latino architect of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program is reportedly on President-elect Joe Biden’s short list to take over.

Multiple news outlets say that Alejandro Mayorkas is a contender to lead the massive Department of Homeland Security.

Mayorkas is a partner at the international law firm WilmerHale. A biography on the firm website says he led U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services under former President Obama.

Mayorkas met a 60-day deadline to start the DACA program that protects tens of thousands of Arizonans from deportation. And he rose to deputy secretary at Homeland Security. Mayorkas also has been a federal prosecutor and is Cuban American.
