Multiple news outlets say that Alejandro Mayorkas is a contender to lead the massive Department of Homeland Security.
Mayorkas is a partner at the international law firm WilmerHale. A biography on the firm website says he led U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services under former President Obama.
Mayorkas met a 60-day deadline to start the DACA program that protects tens of thousands of Arizonans from deportation. And he rose to deputy secretary at Homeland Security. Mayorkas also has been a federal prosecutor and is Cuban American.
