Bipartisan Group Lobbies For Space Command In Arizona

A bipartisan congressional coalition has written Secretary of the Air Force Barbera Barrett asking that Arizona be selected for the U.S. Space Command headquarters.

The group, which included Republican Rep. Debbie Lesko and Democrat Sen. Kyrsten Sinema, noted that Arizona’s 300 days of sunshine a year make it a great place to train pilots.

It also said Arizona has a number of leading aerospace and defense contractors, military bases and universities.

The Space Command operates out of Colorado Springs and will continue to do so until a permanent base is established.

The Air Force plans to make a decision early next year.
