An anonymous group of donors is putting up $250,000 to keep the Arizona Theatre Company (ATC) going in 2021.
The theatre has launched a “ Bring Us Back to Live” campaign in hopes of matching donor monies with individual contributions.
This year’s season was essentially cancelled due to the pandemic and even though the company hopes to bring back live audiences indoors next year, it will be at an extremely diminished capacity.
Paula Taylor, chief development officer for the company, said her role has introduced her to a lot of supporters after moving to the Valley.
Speaking on the company’s regular Friday vidcast, Taylor said, “You know, I’m new to Phoenix. It’s been two years and I have a lot of new friends now. If I was in a pinch, I know I could call them. They don’t just love the theatre. We are connected and I feel very blessed about that.”
The company will launch in Tucson with the musical, “My 80-Year-Old Boyfriend” in late January and follow with performances in Phoenix beginning in mid-February.
ATC also recently announced it is extending its submission deadline for the 2021 National Latinx Playwriting Award until December 1, 2020.
According to a press release, "Full-length and one-act plays (minimum length: 50 pages) on any subject will be accepted and become the property of Arizona Theatre Company and will not be returned. In this case, “property” means the physical property of the theatre, not the intellectual property or any rights to the play. Submissions of a single script can be made via email to [email protected]
The winner will be notified by Fall 2021.
