ADOT Announces Winter Road Closures

The Arizona Department of Transportation announced its annual winter road closures would begin Monday.

Spokesperson Ryan Harding says ADOT closes several roads each year due to expected snowfall.

“These highways typically see a lot of snowfall during the winter, and by closing them off, that allows ADOT to redirect its snowplow resources to other roads like interstates and other more heavily traveled roads," Harding said. "Those all kind of just shut down for winter, then we’ll come back in the spring, plow them, and make sure they’re ready for reopening.”

Starting on Dec. 1, State Route 67 to the North Rim of the Grand Canyon will be closed, and State Routes 261 and 273 in the White Mountains will close before the end of the year.
