DACA Recipients Hopeful Biden Administration Will Keep Its Promise To Maintain Program

During his campaign and on the debate stage, now President-elect Joe Biden promised to take action for "DREAMers" and DACA recipients who were brought to the U.S. illegally as children right out of the gate.

Now that he has won the election, those DREAMers are waiting to see if he follows through. Especially for recipients of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program, what Biden does next will have a direct impact on their lives.

President Donald Trump has been attempting to dismantle the DACA program for some time through the courts but has largely failed.

A federal judge in New York ruled Nov. 14 that acting Homeland Security Secretary Chad Wolf didn’t have the authority to phase out work permits for DACA recipients because he was appointed to the position unlawfully.

What would it mean if Biden kept his promise? To find out, The Show spoke with Ruben Reyes of the American Immigration Lawyers Association, who works with DACA recipients.
