Flagstaff has received recognition by a global nonprofit for its work in sustainability.
The Carbon Disclosure Project has put Flagstaff on its A list for the second year in a row.
The city hopes to be carbon neutral by 2030, but its efforts go beyond carbon. The northern Arizona community is also working on local watersheds, forest health, recycling and transportation.
“It energizes us to continue doing that hard work as we move forward to achieve our goals of carbon neutrality by 2030,” said Nicole Antonopoulos, the city’s sustainability director.
Flagstaff also is working on protecting its dark skies, which aid stargazing, astronomy and wildlife. In 2001, it was named the world’s first Dark Sky city.
