Every month since March, Saint Mary’s Food Bank has seen record-breaking demand for food.
Last Thanksgiving, the food bank distributed 12,000 turkeys ahead of Thanksgiving. This year, spokesperson Jerry Brown says they expect much higher demand due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The food bank is asking for donations, which several Valley organizations have agreed to match, dollar-for-dollar or turkey-for-turkey, during their turkey drive Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
“Desert Financial Credit Union is going to match every turkey that’s donated, and every $13 that’s donated will help put another turkey on a table," Brown said. "That’ll help us reach our goal. We know that we’re going to see huge lines of people on the 3 days leading up to Thanksgiving."
To donate money or a turkey, you can visit most Safeway and Albertsons stores in the Valley, drop by either of the Saint Mary’s Food Bank locations or donate online.
