During a Friday webinar, Arizona Student University shared with students what they can expect for the spring semester. Students asked if ASU would keep spring break or cancel it like other universities. Vice Provost for Undergraduate Education Fred Corey didn’t have an immediate answer, but said the university would communicate any changes to students.
Students can expect to attend classes in-person or through the ASU sync option which allows students to attend remotely. Some students have complained they couldn’t hear what the people in the room were saying. ASU has invested money on technology to improve the audio quality, he said.
"We are upgrading rooms with drop-down mics in order to improve that experience," Corey said.
Only about 250 of 12,000 classes don’t have the ASU sync option and classes with more than 115 students will be conducted online only, he said
Another thing ASU is continuing into the fall semester is its COVID-19 testing requirement for students living in the dorms. They will need to test negative for COVID-19 or be medically cleared before moving in, said ASU Dean of Students Cassandra Aska.
“So if a person tests and they do not test negative, we ask that they remain home until they are clear from isolation and quarantine before coming back on campus," she said.
Students who do test negative will be needed to turn in proof in early January. Students who contracted the virus between October and December and have already provided documentation to ASU do not need to get retested, Aska said.
