With the holidays right around the corner, older adults and people with disabilities living in congregate settings are being asked to stay put or face a 14-day quarantine.
Earlier this month, the Task Force on Long Term Care updated its guidance regarding off-site visits with family if a county is in the substantial or moderate category. It calls for residents who leave to quarantine for 14 days upon their return.
Now, the Department of Developmental Disabilities is doing the same.
DDD will require its members who leave to quarantine due to the uptick in positive cases. In a statement, DDD said the reason is because many members have underlying health conditions.
However, a spokesperson for the Arc of Arizona, a disability advocacy group, said a mandatory two-week quarantine will require members to be isolated from housemates for the entire time — effectively locked in their bedrooms with no companionship.
