Want To Ship Gifts This Year? Start Early

After a busy few months handling a surge of mail-in ballots, the Postal Service is bracing for another surge: holiday shipping.

U.S. Postal Service spokesperson Rod Spurgeon says the deadline for mailing packages and cards is approaching quickly.

“Our military mail, that is Dec. 11 so pay attention to that deadline," he said. "For domestic mail, we’re looking at Dec. 15 for ground service, and that is the most economical shipping that we offer. From there we have Dec. 18, the First Class Mail deadline.”

Sending anything after Dec. 18 will come at a steep premium: The only options are priority mail and priority mail express.
