The Mexican federal government has published what the president says is an “ethical guide” to help rid the country of societal ills and lift people out of “degradation and decadence.”
The “Ethical Guide for the Transformation of Mexico” is a conservative, 20-point pamphlet designed to address what President Andrés Manuel López Obrador says is a crisis of lost cultural, moral and spiritual values in the country.
"As you know, for awhile now we have been experience a crisis in Mexico," he said. "Not only is an economic crisis, not only is it a crisis of material wellbeing, but also a crisis of the loss of cultural, moral, spiritual values."
The guide contains teachings on values such as forgiveness, justice, freedom and redemption. It also suggests those who have committed crimes or are corrupt can redeem themselves through reflection, education and therapy.
The government will print and distribute 10 million free copies of the guide to people who receive government benefits — including seniors, who are encouraged to read the guide and share its lessons with their children and grandchildren.
