How Recent Events Have Heightened Tension Between Iran And Other Nations

For many decades, Iran has been one of the most dangerous adversaries of the United States — beginning with Ayatollah Khomeini’s ascension to power in the 1970s and the related hostage crisis.

During the Obama administration, the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action was signed — in part to keep Iran’s nuclear program in check.

Though controversial, the plan of action was considered to be at least somewhat successful. But in 2018, the Trump administration pulled out of the agreement. And in November, a key Iranian nuclear scientist was killed. The presumption is that the killing was carried out by Israel.

This latest development is leading to more unpredictability when it comes to Iran, its nuclear program and the United States.

Joe Brazda is an expert in the field with experience at the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory and the International Atomic Energy Agency. Brazda is currently with CRDF Global.

The Show spoke with him about the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action, Iran's nuclear program and the recent killing of scientist Mohsen Fakhrizadeh.

Brazda will also be speaking virtually Dec. 2 at 5:30 p.m. as part of Arizona State University's Center on the Future of War.
