Earlier this week, Tucson’s City Council approved a curfew as a way of slowing the spread of COVID-19. It will go into effect Friday night at 10:00 p.m and will be in place every night between 10:00 p.m. and 5:00 a.m. through Dec. 23.
Tucson Mayor Regina Romero said the council acted because the state hasn’t imposed any curfews since the spring — which was related to protests around the killing of George Floyd.
For the short term, the curfew is expected to affect Tucson businesses — restaurants and bars, in particular.
