MEXICO CITY — Mexico is planning to follow the United Kingdom and become one of the first countries to administer COVID-19 vaccine to its population. And according to its president, this will be possible thanks to the current U.S. administration.
According to President Andrés Manuel López Obrador, Mexico will purchase about 34 million doses of the vaccine produced by Pfizer.
López Obrador said the intervention of President Donald Trump and Vice President Mike Pence was crucial to facilitate Mexico’s access to the vaccine.
He said this is a result of his visit to Washington in July, where several issues were negotiated, including the vaccine.
López Obrador says he expects his government to start administering the vaccine this month, beginning with teachers, health workers and people with high-risk conditions.
