Mexico could begin administering coronavirus vaccinations before the end of the year.
On Tuesday, some of Mexico’s top health officials assured the country that access to the vaccine would be guaranteed to everyone. But its distribution will be determined by several priorities, and at least initially will be aided by the Mexican military.
“Who are they?” asked Health Subsecretary Hugo Lopez-Gatell of who would be prioritized in the first stage. “The health care workers on the frontlines of responding to the COVID-19 pandemic.”
Subsequent stages will prioritize age, with those over 60 slated for the second phase, which is expected to begin in February. Mexico has signed agreements with several providers, including Pfizer, for tens of millions of doses.
