In the more than nine months since the U.S. has been dealing with the pandemic, scientists and researchers have gained tremendous knowledge about COVID-19. Some of that led to the development of vaccines that have begun to be distributed and dispensed.
Other information has been gathered that may be used to fend off the next pandemic — or at least give us more knowledge and the ability to anticipate something dramatic.
Rolf Halden of ASU’s Biodesign Institute was a pioneer in using wastewater to determine how much toxins and pharmaceuticals were impacting communities, and then he turned to wastewater and COVID-19.
The Show spoke with professor Halden and Adam Gushgari of Aquavitas to talk about what could be next.
Aquavitas grew out of the work Halden has done, and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services recently signed a contract with the company to expand wastewater studies.
