Statistics released last week showed a significant increase in some types of crime in Phoenix — most strikingly in the number of homicides.
The Phoenix Police Department reported 187 homicides as of November. That number is up nearly 60 from last year.
Researchers and analysts are looking into how much — if any — of that is pandemic-related.
Expectations are that the pandemic is a large part of the equation, but that theory hasn’t been confirmed yet.
