Older Arizonans With Mild COVID-19 Cases May Have Outpatient Treatment Options

COVID-19 is widespread throughout Arizona but hospital leaders say some treatments are being underutilized.

Dr. Marjorie Bessel, chief clinical officer of Banner Health, said antibody treatments are available for adults over 65 or adults over 55 with underlying conditions like diabetes.

"This can be helpful to you even if you are in the early stages of COVID-19 or have mild symptoms," Bessel said. “Antibodies can help the body clear the virus faster and reduce severity of symptoms.”

Bessel said this is an outpatient treatment that can help with mild-to-moderate COVID-19 cases.

She said it’s important for anyone experiencing symptoms of illness to be tested quickly so they can seek treatment early and avoid spreading the virus to others.

"Please do not dismiss symptoms. Even if they are mild, I would encourage you to get tested," Bessel said.

Hundreds of  testing sites are available across Arizona.
