MEXICO CITY — Along with the U.S., Mexico has begun administering COVID-19 vaccines to frontline workers. Mexico's president has announced that more vaccines are coming, and he’s authorizing some of it for public sale.
Many places in Mexico, including its capital city, are registering a high volume of coronavirus patients, while hospital beds are nearing full capacity. President Andrés Manuel López Obrador says his government remains focused on vaccines.
The president says his government will guarantee free vaccines for all, through a process prioritizing the most vulnerable populations.
But the government is also authorizing private companies to purchase vaccines overseas and sell them.
López Obrador says the current vaccine shipments come from Pfizer, but they will soon start distributing those from the Chinese lab CanSeco.
Unlike Pfizer vaccines, the CanSeco ones are one shot only and don’t require deep freezing.
