Vitalant Calls Out For Blood Donations Due To Annual Low Supply

During the week between Christmas and New Year’s Day, blood donations are at the lowest level of the year.

That’s why Vatalant is calling out for eligible donors to participate in a drive this weekend.

Arizona patients require more transfusions in January than during any other month, according to Vitalant. That’s why the organization is hosting the state’s largest blood drive this weekend at two different locations.

The goal is to collect more than 600 donations to meet the increased demand. And the agency says while all blood types are desired, there’s an urgent need for donors with Type-O. That’s the universal blood which can be substituted for other types in emergencies.

Blood donors can visit the Gila River Arena on Saturday from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. or the Tempe Center for the Arts on Sunday from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Appointments are encouraged for social distancing. Visit the Vitalant websiteor call 1-877-258-4825 to schedule one.
