Maricopa County Treasurer Resigns 2 Weeks Before He Was Scheduled Leaving Office

The Maricopa County Board of Supervisors has accepted County Treasurer Royce Flora’s resignation.

Flora submitted his resignation Thursday, effective immediately. He was scheduled to leave office in less than two weeks.

The board appointed Shelby Scharbach as interim treasurer during an emergency meeting Thursday morning.

Scharbach will fill the position until the new treasurer, John Allen, takes over on Jan. 11. Scharbach is the executive director of the Maricopa Industrial Development Authority and was the county's former chief financial officer.
