Coalition Of University Of Arizona Employees Requests Stricter COVID-19 Guidelines

The Coalition for Academic Justice at the University of Arizona, a coalition of UA employees, is demanding stricter guidelines to mitigate the spread of COVID-19.

Nick Halsey of the coalition says that UA’s current reopening plans are much different than the plans recommended by Pima County.

“Right now, we’re not entirely sure which criteria, which metrics they’re using to guide their re-entry decisions,” Halsey said.

In an open letter to university leadership, the coalition requested classes move online until the Pima County Health Department’s COVID-19 Progress Report shows positive trends for two straight weeks.

The university is currently planning to start classes on Jan. 13, with an option to take classes in person.
