‘When We Get Back To Some Semblance Of Normal, Normal Isn’t Gonna Cut It’ — How To Help Students Overcome Lost Learning Due To Pandemic

As schools come back from winter break, the conversation is continuing over how the pandemic is impacting education and what students will have learned this year.

Christine Thompson says learning gaps weren’t caused by the pandemic, but that it did make those gaps worse. Thompson is president and CEO of the advocacy group Expect More Arizona.

The Show spoke with her about how she thinks we should be thinking about issues like Move on When Reading, saying students can’t move on from third grade unless they’re reading at grade level, given the challenges students and teachers have faced this year.
