The Arizona Corporation Commission will have a new makeup this term with two new members and one returning member after November’s elections.
Republican Jim O’Connor and Democrat Anna Tovar won new seats on the commission, and Republican Lea Marquez Peterson will keep her seat after being appointed last term.
The commission regulates utility rates in the state as well as energy policy. And one of the first responsibilities of the commission this term will be to address a clean-energy mandate that was approved last year by a 4-1 vote.
If approved, it would call for state utilities to operate on carbon-free energy by 2050.
Ryan Randazzo covers energy policy for the Arizona Republic, and The Show spoke with him for more about what’s to come.
