Interstate 10 Broadway Curve Improvement Project To Begin Development

The Arizona Department of Transportation is one step closer to one of its largest freeway expansion projects in years. Last week, it signed a contract with a developer to design and construct the Interstate 10 Broadway Curve Improvement Project.

The project intends to enhance safety, reduce travel time and ease access to Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport. About 300,000 vehicles travel through the Broadway Curve daily.

Planned improvements include adding pedestrian bridges over I-10 between Baseline and Broadway roads, and widening stretches of I-10 to six general purpose lanes and two HOV lanes.

Construction is scheduled to begin later this year and last up to four years. The project is funded in part by Proposition 400, a dedicated sales tax approved by Maricopa County voters in 2004.
