Phoenix Business Association Vows To Withhold Support Of GOP Until 'Civil Discourse' Returns

A Phoenix business association released additional condemnation of the ransacking of the Capitol by extremist Trump supporters last week.

The Jan. 10, 2021, rebuke by Greater Phoenix Leadership (GPL) stated in part, “…the weeks of disinformation and outright lies to reverse a fair and free election from the head of the Arizona Republican Party and some elected officials to be reprehensible.”

GPL CEO and President Neil Giuliano said, “Elected officials at all levels whether in Congress or in the state Legislature or wherever they may be who continue to promote false and misleading statements with regard to the election are doing a great disservice and great harm to our Democracy and to the future.”

The statement further went on to state, “The vast majority of us have agreed that we will no longer support the party and these individuals financially, nor will we continue memberships in organizations that support them financially, until we see change in rhetoric, leadership and practice with a return to civil discourse and the fundamental principles upon which the Republican Party was founded.”

The association was quick to disavow the criminal activity at the Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021, and issued the following statement on its website.

“Greater Phoenix Leadership denounces the activity underway at the United States Capitol. While protesting results of our nation’s free and fair election system is a right, the havoc, violence and mob-rule behavior exhibited is an assault on the very democracy which our elected leaders are charged to protect at all costs.

Further, we call on all elected officials and community leaders throughout the great state of Arizona to use their voices to disavow this unprecedented domestic terrorism upon a peaceful transition of leadership for our nation.”

Giuliano joined The Show to talk more about the statement.
