Wednesday was the second day of COVID-19 vaccine distribution at State Farm Stadium in Glendale.
Arizona Department of Health Services Director Dr. Cara Christ said they hope to provide about 6,000 shots per day at the site.
“As we get more of a supply of vaccine and we can ensure that we would be able to provide it here at State Farm, we actually have the capacity — as we go — to potentially ramp up to 12,000 people a day," Chirst said.
As Maricopa County and some others move into Phase 1B, more Arizonans are able to access the vaccine. Teachers, child care providers and law enforcement personnel can now schedule appointments through the Department of Health Services website.
Christ said more than 87,000 appointments have been successfully scheduled at the stadium.
“And we still have appointments available," Chirst said. "We’re fully booked through the 19th of January, but there are appointments continuing and we will continue to open more appointments as we see how the operations are running.”
There are five other vaccine distribution sites in Maricopa County and two sites in Pima County. Some pharmacies and other providers also have access to the shots.
