Safety concerns will force the agency that runs the U.S. immigration system to close all field offices the day before Joe Biden gets sworn in as president and the day he’s inaugurated.
There’s regular traffic at U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services. People go there to do things like drop off a green card application, have their fingerprints taken or swear the naturalization oath.
Phoenix and Tucson have field offices. And there’s a support center in Yuma. These and other locations across the country will be shut down Tuesday, as well as Wednesday for Biden’s inauguration.
Agency officials say the closures are to ensure safety for staff and those with appointments.
