In 2020, Arizonans legally smoked, ate or otherwise consumed nearly 106 tons of marijuana, according to details from the latest Arizona Department of Health Services report.
While financial data from the state-regulated medical marijuana dispensaries is kept confidential, its use is up 27% since 2019 and nearly double since 2018.
Medical marijuana use has been steadily increasing since the 2010 voter approved law allowing patients with certain medical conditions to obtain the drug. The data shows most users complain of chronic pain and most are male.
These numbers don’t account for those buying and using illegally. The legal use of recreational marijuana in the state passed in the November election.
