Historians Dismiss 1776 Report As Misleading, Inaccurate

A report on U.S. history released by the outgoing Trump administration has been dismissed by historians as inaccurate and misleading.

Criticism of the report came swiftly. It is unclear who wrote the document which is more than 40 pages long, or what sources were used, if any.

The report states that before 1776, the people living in the colonies were “subjects of a distant king.”

That statement was one of many that raised eyebrows, said Lauren Harris, an associate professor of history education at Arizona State University.

“Well that statement erases indigenous peoples who had been living on this land for hundreds and hundreds, thousands of years. So, it’s another entry into the culture wars of whose history should be taught, what stories should be told,” Harris said.

The report has been removed from the White House website.
