A group of nearly two dozen Mexican congresswomen have put out a statement expressing concern over the disappearance of a woman in the border town of Nogales, Sonora, more than two weeks ago.
Cecilia Yépiz Reyna went missing in Nogales, Sonora, on Jan. 5. Now a group of legislators representing the Gender Equality Commission are pushing for the case to receive national attention after what they are calling silence on the part of state officials.
In a statement released earlier this week, they wrote that even after her car was found apparently abandoned in a store parking lot, not a single local or state authority put out a statement about her disappearance.
And the lawmakers urged Sonora’s Attorney General’s Office to carry out a full investigation with the help of local, state and federal law enforcement.
Yépiz, 49, had been working as a city planning director in Nogales, Sorora, but quit her job in December.
