A northern Arizona lawmaker has resigned to take a job with the Biden administration.
Democratic Rep. Arlando Teller, a member of the Navajo Nation, resigned effective Sunday.
In a speech on the House floor, Teller announced to his former colleagues he’s taking a job as deputy assistant secretary for tribal affairs with the U.S. Department of Transportation.
"Please remind me and share with me the stories of your communities. Because it's important that I keep and remind myself, my umbilical cord is still in Arizona. My family's still in Arizona. My four clans originated from Arizona, and I'm not going to leave from Arizona," Teller said.
Teller was first elected to the Legislature in 2018, and has worked with the city of Phoenix’s aviation department and the Navajo Nation Division of Transportation.
The Apache County Board of Supervisors is responsible for appointing his replacement as representative.
