The city of Phoenix has launched a new COVID-19 mobile testing van Tuesday after seeing high demand from its first vehicle.
The city launched the first van in August to target underserved communities, said spokeswoman Yvette Roeder. On average, it tests about 500 people each day.
The city is using the second van to hit areas of Phoenix that have been identified as coronavirus hotspots by county or state COVID-19 data.
“The goal of this van number two is target the hotspots in the city and hopefully lower the incidence of COVID-19 in that community or in that zip code," Roeder said.
The second van offers individuals two types of tests: an antigen test with results ready within 15 to 20 minutes, and a PCR test with results emailed in one to two days. The tests are free. The vans’ locations, and dates and hours of operation can be found on the city of Phoenix's website.
