Nearly 2 Weeks After COVID-19 Diagnosis, Mexico’s President Tests Negative

Nearly two weeks after being diagnosed with COVID-19, Mexico’s president has now tested negative.

President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador confirmed the negative test in video Thursday evening.

“Of course, I still need to wait a few more days, but I’m now healthy,” he said.

He went on to say that the country needs to continue to confront the twin crises of the pandemic and its economic fallout. He promised massive vaccination efforts this month, focusing on the country’s elderly in February and March.

Despite the battering the economy has taken during the pandemic, he said he was optimistic about its prospects and pointed to recent evidence of job growth.
