The head of the Arizona House Ethics Committee has dismissed 82 ethics complaints against Rep. Mark Finchem related to the Jan. 6 siege of the U.S. Capitol.
Finchem was outside the Capitol that day, but says he never got within 500 yards of the building.
Most House Democrats have signed onto a resolution to expel Finchem, and some have demanded federal authorities investigate.
Finchem, a Republican from Tucson, made social media postings from outside the Capitol on January 6th supporting the protesters. He has since deleted his Twitter account and denied public-records requests to view his phone records.
Republican Becky Nutt chairs the ethics committee. She said the complaints failed to establish that Finchem supported or participated in the attack.
Democratic Rep. César Chávez, who filed the original complaint, called the process “beyond troublesome and disappointing.”
