The onset of the coronavirus pandemic brought festivals and other large in-person gatherings to a screeching halt.
A wave of cancellations and postponements followed, with no end in sight. But after nearly a year, many of these events have adapted and found new life in the virtual world, including the Arizona SciTech Festival.
Launched in 2012, the Arizona SciTech Festival typically draws thousands of people to downtown Phoenix every winter. But this year, the festival is largely virtual, with presentations made via Zoom, Facebook and other digital platforms.
Kelly Greene the chief operating officer at the SciTech Institute says Facebook Live is creating more of an interest because people are allowed to share the event and view it afterwards.
Greene says the Institute plans on holding the festival in-person again once the pandemic is over but is considering keeping the virtual option. The month-long event runs through Feb. 28.
