Two more suspects in a 2019 massacre in northeastern Sonora have been arrested.
The two men, identified only as Wilbert “M” and Tomas “N” by federal authorities, were recently detained in Nuevo Casas Grandes, Chihuahua, the Mexican state to Sonora’s east.
Wilbert was arrested on charges of murder, attempted murder and organized crime, and Tomas on organized crime charges, according to a release from the Mexican Attorney General’s Office. Both were taken to a prison in Mexico state.
In a statement, Adrián LeBarón, whose daughter and four grandchildren were murdered in the grisly attack, recognized the work of the federal government but said much remains to be done.
“We need them to pay for their crime in an exemplary way, so that this scene is not repeated anywhere in Mexico,” he wrote.
