In a letter to the secretary of Homeland Security, Arizona Gov. Doug Ducey shared concerns about the Biden administration resuming asylum claims from inside the United States.
In Ducey’s letter, the governor asked how the state is supposed to deal with a possible influx of immigrants as the Trump-era “remain in Mexico” program is dismantled. He said the agency did not consult with local law enforcement or health officials.
However, the administration suggested it would be handling the processing at three border entry points. There has been no announcement whether that will include any of the crossings in Arizona.
Processing will begin as early as Friday. There will also be a virtual registration.
