The furniture company La-Z-Boy has started operations at a plant in neighboring Sonora.
The facility is in the border city of San Luis Rio Colorado, a 45-minute drive south of Yuma. Its opening will bring 500 jobs to the city, according to state officials.
“We have a lot of reasons to be happy,” said Sonoran Gov. Claudia Pavlovich during a virtual inauguration of the facility.
She pointed to recent findings that the state is experiencing a robust recovery amid the ongoing pandemic.
In the first month of 2021, the state added roughly 12,000 formal jobs, but stood well below where it started 2020, according to federal jobs data.
