Sonoran Searching Group May Have Found Body Of Leader’s Son

One of several Sonoran groups dedicated to searching for the bodies of missing loved ones may have found one of its leader’s missing sons.

Ceci Patricia Flores, founder of the Madres Buscadoras de Sonora, or Searching Mothers of Sonora, said there’s a decent chance the body is her son Marco Antonio Sauceda, who went missing in Kino Bay in May 2019. An anonymous call led them to the remains last week, and Flores said she recognized the clothing, wallet and other features.

“Even if it is my son, I’m going to continue my struggle,” she said of what happens next if DNA tests confirm the body’s suspected identity.

Not only does she still have another son missing, but she wants to help bring peace to the hundreds of other families still searching, work that will be a part of how she honors her son’s memory.

“When I went out into the countryside with a pick and shovel to search for my son, I adopted all of the disappeared as my children,” she said. “Therefore, if I stop searching, it would be failing all of my children.”
