The Queen Creek Unified School District has used a GPS system in their school buses since 2019. This past October, the district started using an app called Here Comes the Bus for parents to track their students.
Here Comes the Bus is an app that allows parents to track the child’s school bus while they ride it. Peggie Overton, the district’s transportation director, says the app provides a timeframe for the parents to see when the bus will come.
“They can actually track the approach of the bus and the departure of the bus from that particular bus stop," she says.
Overton says the app provides a sense of relief for parents and guardians because it lets them know when students arrive at their destination.
She also says the system allows parents to track students’ trips.
“The parents receive alerts where they are able to see time, location of when their child entered the bus and when they exited the bus,” Overton said.
Overton says parents with small children have said they like the app, especially when they are riding for the first time.
More than 10,000 students attend the district, which includes eight elementary schools.
