The state health department Tuesday started allowing Arizonans 55 and older to book COVID-19 vaccine appointments at two of the state’s vaccination sites. One of the first in that age group to get a vaccine was 56-year-old Gov. Doug Ducey.
Many politicians, including President Joe Biden, have made their COVID-19 vaccinations widely publicized events. In Arizona, the state health department has organized media events to showcase vaccinations of health care workers, seniors and faith leaders.
But Ducey’s office did not invite the media to be present when he received his vaccine at the State Farm Stadium site in Glendale on Tuesday. Instead, Ducey released a 30-second video on Twitter and Facebook about getting his shot.

“I want everybody to get this vaccine. It’s safe. It’s effective," Ducey said in the clip.
Ducey has given a number of interviews recently, but he hasn’t held a briefing to take questions from reporters about COVID-19 since Dec. 16.
Ducey's office did not respond to KJZZ's request for comment.
