Judge Orders Release Of NCAA Allegations Against Arizona Basketball

A judge has ordered the state Board of Regents to let the public see the list of NCAA allegations leveled against the University of Arizona men’s basketball program.

University officials have refused since October to release the accusations that stem from a probe of a bribery scandal involving a former assistant coach.

ESPN sued to force the Board of Regents to release the NCAA allegations.

At a recent court hearing, Arizona’s athletic director said releasing them too soon could hurt the university’s reputation.

The judge rejected this argument, and cited case law involving the university.

At the same hearing, the Arizona’s expert on NCAA compliance said breaking confidentiality rules could ultimately land the school a tougher penalty.

The judge rejected this as well, and wrote there was no proof that other universities were punished after honoring public records requests for allegations leveled against them.
