Construction to repair the Seventh Street Bridge over the Salt River will begin Monday. The bridge south of downtown Phoenix was severely damaged in a gas line fire last month.
After the fire, Phoenix officials concluded that about 35% of the bridge needs to be rebuilt. The bridge will remain closed for about six months, and Seventh Street is restricted between Broadway Road and Interstate 17.
Motorists are encouraged to use alternate north-south routes such as Seventh Avenue or 16th Street.
The Seventh Street trailhead also remains temporarily closed.
Phoenix's Street Transportation Department is providing updates on the project at @StreetsPHX on Twitter.
